Andrew Finn Magill is a fiddler/violinist who straddles genres. By age 16 he was a two-time finalist at the All-Ireland fiddle championships. In 2011 he co-produced an MTV- sponsored album with Afro-pop star Peter Mawanga Mau a Malawi. In 2016 he launched a two disc concept album Roots and Branches which charts Magill’s progression through his musical roots: Irish music. www.rootsbranches.net
Award-winning Glasgow singer Paul McKenna was named "Scots Singer of the Year" in 2012 by Scotland's Trad Music awards, and is also a virtuoso guitarist. Fiddle Workshop - Join Andrew Finn Magill for this workshop for intermediate to advanced players which will be a crash course in Irish & Scottish fiddle technique and how to play sensitively and sensibly with another musician.You will learn a few tunes by ear and unpack them a little to discuss ornaments, bowings, and rhythm. The goal is to get you more confident in your fiddling and to strengthen your ear in recognizing subtleties in the music.
Guitar Workshop - Paul McKenna will lead a workshop for guitarists. Come explore the techniques used for guitar accompaniment in Celtic music. You will learn various tunings, chord shapes, and the basics (as well as the intricacies) of playing guitar in this exciting context The pace will be determined by the group.
Each workshop will meet from 12 noon to 1:00pm, for the final half an hour, from 1:00pm - 1:30pm, the two groups will come together and play a few tunes and talk about talk about playing with another musicians.
