IN CONCERT, FRIDAY, FEB. 19TH AT THE IRISH CENTER
GABRIEL DONOHUE, MARIAN MAKINS AND PARAIC KEANE!
Gabriel makes a return appearance to the Irish Center on Friday, Feb. 19th at 8:00 for an evening of traditional ballads, songs and tunes. Gabriel appeared for a concert in December, along with Marian Makins and Caitlin Warbelow and the trio charmed the audience with their unique talents and mixtures of songs and tunes. Join Gabriel and Marian, along with local fiddler, Paraic Keane, as they entertain us one more time! Gabriel is well-known not only for his lovely guitar playing and great singing voice, but also as a producer of many CD's of well-known musicians. Many Delaware Valley residents may have seen him when he played for audiences at the shore in Cape May and Sea Isle City. He has played with the Chieftains, for the original Riverdance Show, and travels the world performing. He is a producer of recordings for such traditional Irish performers as "Girsa", Jimmy Crowley and many others.
Paraic Keane is an extremely talented fiddler, who has been playing at local sessions for well over a year. Marian Makins, originally from the Washington, DC area but now living in Philadelphia, has the voice of an angel and graces many of the area's sessions with songs in both English and Irish. We hope you can join us for this very special evening of entertainment for all ages!
TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR-$15 GENERAL ADMISSION. For more information, please contact: Marianne MacDonald at (856)236-2717 or rinceseit@msn.com.
And then on FRIDAY, MARCH 6TH AT THE IRISH CENTER, 8:00 pm
The Phildelphia Ceili Group Presents:
BUA
A quintet comprised of some of America’s most talented, young musicians, BUA have been described by Irish Music Magazine as “the essence of a superb band,” their sound “a throwback to the playing of the 1960s and 1970s, keeping the music down the path of tradition” and their exciting CD release, Live at Martyrs’, “a work without gimmicks, where the musicianship is of the highest quality.” It is no surprise then that BUA, lending to its Irish Gaelic meaning of ‘victory,’ have quickly risen to the status of America’s premier traditional Irish ensemble.
As a band, BUA have performed at numerous festivals including Boston’s prestigious Irish Connections Festival, the Milwaukee Irish Festival, Cleveland’s Irish Cultural Festival, Celtic Fest Chicago and more. As individuals they’ve shared the stage with a host of top Irish musicians including Martin Hayes, David Munnelly, Liz Carroll, Larry Nugent, Paddy Keenan, and Aoife Clancy.
Bill Margeson, of the Irish American News, captures their essence concisely: “Clearly, this group is no locally-based collection of musicians trying to break out of Chicago. This is a group that has established itself [both] individually and as a group in the eyes and ears of the traditional community…As other bands change, disband or simply fade away, the tradition is blessed by what seems to be an inexhaustible pool of talent that comes to the front of the stage. It is BUA’s time. Here they come.”
